Yeah. I'm doing the celebrity one.

So,

I am now looking at the celebrity side of Mark Twain and using the man himself as my cultural artifact. I am super stoked to embark upon this quest...the only problem is that I decided this Yesterday. I am about 2/3 of the way done on my artifact review...which, honestly, is extremely challenging to make into more a movie review and not a biography. I'll most likely turn it in tomorrow in ML for 10% less. BUT I am hopeful. And it's going to rock. That's all for now.

  1. I like the enthusiasm for your article review, I am sure it did rock!

I know reading your last post you are looking at Twain as America's 1st celebrity. Do you think this is a bit of an overstatement considering history?
In the society of authors, Twain is that default American writer that people bring up in conversation. This being the case, have you looked into his work as a stepping stone for the exploration of the man? I'm speculating, but bet his writing changed as his notoriety increased. I would assume the most.

Also, who else around his time period was prominent in his societal circle? I wonder if he can be linked to others of the later 19th century that shared this celebrity aspect of life? And how do any of those relationships parallel what we see of celebrity groupings today...

I hope I'm not dragging on my comments, and they are somewhat helpful or even a tiny bit intriguing. I really love the thought of looking into celebrity because it is so much of our culture today. Almost part of the psyche now because of the overexposure and I'm really wondering now how this type of notoriety played out in Twain's lifetime.
